Litigation Paralegal

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, currently has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Litigation Paralegal in our Los Angeles office. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefit package.

Position Summary:

The Litigation Paralegal will perform a variety of duties including researching law, investigating facts, and preparing documents for attorneys according to established policies and procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continual review and management of case files.
  • Prepare initial discovery, i.e., interrogatories, request for production and request for admissions.
  • Journal deadlines for responses and monitor for timeliness.
  • Prepare draft responses for discovery, including document productions and deposition summaries.
  • Prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, chronologies, agreements, and/or trial binders for use by Attorneys.
  • Investigate facts as requested by attorney.
  • Ensure proper indexing and filing of original legal documents.
  • Trial preparation- prepare trial binders, exhibit lists, exhibit binders, trial subpoenas; engage in witness management; schedule trial testimony and other arrangements as necessary
  • Prepare third party discovery subpoenas compelling depositions and/or document productions
  • Prepare deposition indices and summaries
  • Prepare attorneys for depositions

 

Qualifications and Prior Experience:

  • Meets the qualifications specified under the California Business & Professions Code §6450 plus a minimum of five years of general civil litigation experience with a focus on real estate.
  • Experience with unlawful detainers in the commercial realm highly preferred.
  • Experience with trial preparation and software such as Sanction and TrialPad.
  • Highly proficient in Relativity.
  • Knowledge of complex litigation including medical malpractice, construction and product liability.
  • Working knowledge and experience of e-Filing in both State and Federal Court systems.
  • Working knowledge of internet software, Excel spreadsheet software, and Microsoft Word software.
  • Writes clearly and informatively, edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs; and ability to read and interpret written information.
  • Listens and solicits clarification when needed; responds well to questions.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information; collects and researches data.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
