Unified Communications (UC) Engineer

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, currently has an excellent full-time employment opportunity for a Unified Communications (UC) Engineer. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.

Position Summary:

The UC Engineer is the lead architect/engineer for the Firm’s “Unified Communications” platform. Operationally, the UC Engineer provides tier 2 support and is responsible and accountable for ensuring all UC related systems and applications are provisioned and maintained to meet the Firm’s business requirements for security, quality, availability and functionality. The UC Engineer will work Monday through Friday as well as participate during the weekend maintenance window and could be called upon anytime to address emergencies. This opportunity is open Nationwide.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides responsible system administration of the Firm’s UC systems.
  • Fulfills requests for moves, adds and changes.
  • Ensures security and proper utilization of resources by analyzing configurations to determine the most effective use of systems and services.
  • Works closely with the Desktop and Network team to monitor and to troubleshoot issues that may be contributing to application/system performance.
  • Provides support and backup for the Multimedia Team.
  • Responsible for appropriately documenting and maintaining the unified communications life-cycle program. This includes maintaining current written inventories of physical, software, and service assets.
  • Helps to maintain a directory database, including E911 information which contains telephone numbers, their location, persons assigned to each number, and all other relevant information.
  • This position will take the lead and command of performance issues and system outages of the UC environment. This includes engaging colleagues from relevant teams, contacting vendors, escalating issues to IT Managers and communicating all problems such as service disruptions to applicable Firm personnel.
  • Processes vendor invoices and verifies the accuracy of the charges.
  • Keeps current on ever-changing technologies through self-directed research, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development and training courses as guided by management.
  • Documents the UC environment by creating up-to-date configuration documents, process diagrams, quick reference guides, and operation procedures.
  • Produces monthly metrics that aid in identifying issues, new trends, capacity planning, budget compliance, etc.
  • Administers other miscellaneous roles such as maintaining the Firm’s cell phone accounts, conference bridge provider(s), etc.

 

Qualifications and Prior Experience:

  • An Associates or Bachelor degree, certification or equivalent experience. Law firm experience is a plus.
  • Experience with one of the following systems or equivalent experience: Zoom Phone and Meeting system, Ring Central Phone and Meeting system, Microsoft TEAMS/Skype experience or CCNA Voice – Cisco Certified Network Professional.
  • Experience with UC system management (Telephony System management is a plus), network monitoring systems and multimedia system management.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with all aspects of UC platforms and IP networks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cloud-based service provisioning.
  • Comprehensive understanding of inner workings of SIP architectures.
  • Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with QOS, POE, and IP network switching and routing.
  • Ability to automate frequent process.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, an ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Able to work on multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a customer-service focus and attitude at all times.
  • Capable of working individually as well as part of a team and adapt to change.
