Location: Flexible and in any state where the firm has an office.

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, currently has an excellent full-time employment opportunity for a Senior Docket Specialist in our New York office. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package plus a 35 hour work week.

Position Summary: 
The Senior Docket Specialist will be part of a team of docket staff who work in both regional and cross-regional assignments, supporting a multitude of practice groups within the Firm. The candidate should work well under pressure, possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. This individual will be responsible for reviewing court filings, docketing relevant deadlines and appearances, assisting in training new docket staff, and supporting special projects.

Essential Functions Include:

1. Review documents and utilize a rules-based docket system to generate deadlines.
2. Use internal and external resources to ascertain correct case information, and engage is discussions with attorneys and/or secretaries to gather information and/or clarification as needed.
3. Fully understand the litigation and appellate processes and court rules. 
4. Research and interpret rules and statutes.
5. Stay current with industry best practices and new development in the area of docketing, court procedures and rule changes. 
6. Assist in training new docket staff on department policies, procedures, and software systems.
7. Perform quality control checks of new docket staff to ensure data is accurate and complete. 
8. Lead special projects as needed.


Qualifications and Prior Experience:

1. A minimum of 5 years prior docket experience with a rules based calendaring system (CompuLaw, CourtAlert, and/or eDockets).
2. Advanced working knowledge of the federal, state court, and agency rules.
3. Excellent knowledge of the court system and agencies.
4. Previous experience in a law firm and knowledge of various litigation practice areas (e.g., labor and employment, workers compensation, civil, appellate, bankruptcy, etc.). 
5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze information, including interpretation of court rules. 
6. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with personnel at all levels to converse about conflicts of interest issues, and department procedures.
7. Excellent professional work ethic, initiative and customer service.   
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.  
9. Ability to work within tight deadlines and to provide off hours (evenings/weekends) to support projects and escalated issues, as needed.
