With approximately 500 lawyers and 1,000 personnel we are a traditional, yet innovative and diverse Firm and our people are our highest priority.  Our Chicago office is hiring for a Senior Conflicts Analyst.  The Senior Conflicts Analyst is responsible for timely day-to-day analysis of conflict and new client/matter requests, including but not limited to conducting corporate affiliate research, and identifying where potential conflicts exist.  Responsibilities shall also encompass performing similar conflict checks relating to the activities of the Firm’s attorneys and lateral candidates, proper coding of clients, matters and related parties and soliciting detailed descriptions for the nature of work being proposed. This role is also responsible for providing training to new conflict analysts and supporting special projects as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review New Business Intake requests to ensure that data is accurate and complete. Engage in discussions with attorneys and/or secretaries to gather information and/or clarification as needed to determine the nature of an entity’s involvement in a particular matter.
  • Perform conflict of interest searches for all New Business Intake requests and proposed lateral hire candidates.
  • Conduct internal & external research on related parties and affiliates, ensuring that a complete conflict search is performed for all new business introduced by the Firm attorneys.
  • Prepare and analyze reports and effectively summarize conflict search results.
  • Prepare lateral hire memorandum summarizing the conflicts analysis results. 
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of firm policy and department procedures regarding conflict checking and new business intake, including case captions, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines.
  • Assist the Conflicts Manager in the drafting and updating of department procedures conflicts and new business intake.
  • Assist in all aspects of the Conflicts department operations inclusive of administrative tasks to maintain the integrity of the Firm’s conflicts database 
  • Effectively administer requests in the new business intake workflow.
  • Assign new matter numbers, ensure that all waiver and engagement letters are being collected and assist in the implementation of ethical walls as necessary.
  • Respond to all inquiries made by secretaries and attorneys relating to intake and conflicts. 
  • Stay current with best industry practices and new developments in the area of conflicts of interest and risk management.  Participate in continuing education, research, networking, and professional and industry organizations to advance competencies. 
  • Conduct training for new Conflict Analyst.
  • Conduct new hire orientation for all non-timekeepers.
  • Lead special projects.
  •  Assume all other duties assigned. 

 

Minimum  Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant information management or legal studies discipline is required. Minimum of 3 years’   experience in conducting internet research, conflict searching and new business intake is strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze information. Including ability to compile, review, filter, synthesize, and determine logical conclusions or recommendations based on data and information which is varied in content and format.
  • Possess high quality analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to draw accurate conclusions from complex information. 
  • Analyst must have working knowledge of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct pertaining to business intake and conflicts. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required to share conflict of interest issues and department procedures with personnel throughout the firm.
  • Superb professional work ethic with initiative to provide customer service is needed.  
  • Experience with CMS/Aderant, Legal Key and Intapp Open.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and provide off hours coverage (evenings, weekends and holiday) to support projects and escalated issues as needed.
