Consumer Financial Services and Regulatory Compliance Paralegal

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm, currently has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for a Consumer Financial Services and Regulatory Compliance Paralegal in our Chicago office. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.

Position Summary:

Our Chicago office is seeking an experienced Regulatory Compliance Paralegal with experience in the consumer financial services sector who will perform a variety of duties including assisting with the defense of companies in regulatory compliance investigations and litigation brought by governmental bodies under the direct supervision of attorneys, interacting with clients and governmental agencies and preparing documents for attorneys according to established policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with federal and state civil investigative demands and subpoenas, including managing document production and finalizing responses for production to regulators.
  • Assist with federal and state supervisory examinations, including organizing large amounts of information, creating work flows, communicating with the client, organizing deadlines, and uploading information to government portals.
  • Review and analyze client documentation and operational procedures in connection with preparing responses to federal and state agencies.
  • Review and analyze client policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory demands.
  • Review and summarize public settlements or other press on topics related to ongoing investigations.
  • Assist with responses to government agencies, including organizing exhibits and responsive information.
  • Manage client meetings and work streams to complete projects as necessary.
  • Assist with preparation for litigation or mediation.
  • Redact confidential information.
  • Track changes to laws and regulations.

 

Qualifications and Prior Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Legal project management skills are required.
  • Paralegal certificate is preferred.
  • Three years of regulatory compliance experience is preferred.
  • Prior paralegal litigation experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Computer Skills: Must have working knowledge of internet software and proficiency with: Excel spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word software, PowerPoint software, Adobe Acrobat Pro, LexisNexis and Relativity.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required; Excel certification is preferred.
  • Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; varies writing style to meet needs.
  • Listens and seeks clarification when necessary.
  • Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
  • Synthesizes complex or diverse information.
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction; commits to additional hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
