Our Chicago office is looking for a Network/VoIP Engineer with responsibility for the telephony platform and the network it operates on. This innovative role encompasses participation in defining the telephony requirements and contributing to the telephony architecture design. 

Essential Functions Include:
 

  • Providing responsive system administration of the Firm's PBX servers and voice messaging systems.
  • Fulfilling requests for moves, adds, and changes.
  • Administering the telecommunications system by establishing call coverage paths, automatic call distribution groups (ACD), announcements, class of restriction (COR), class of service (COS), paging, music-on-hold, and authorization codes and assisting with administration of exchanges, numbering plan changes, and system trunking.
  • Working to ensure security and proper utilization of resources by analyzing equipment and line configurations to determine the most effective use of the telephony systems and server equipment.
  • Administering the voice messaging system by serving as the primary technical lead for programming, alarm resolution, traffic reports, and system upgrades, developing and administering voice messaging programming procedures, providing train-the-trainer training, and producing and analyzing traffic reports to show use of disk space, port usage, number of mailboxes etc.
  • Managing inventory by maintaining an adequate supply of voice equipment for moves, adds, changes and repair work.  Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of the inventory.
  • Helping to maintain a directory database, including E911 information, which contains telephone numbers, their location, persons assigned to each number, and all other relevant information;
  • Working with the Networking team, administering the entire troubleshooting processes of disruptions to voice systems.  This includes contacting vendors, escalating issues to IT Managers and communicating all problems such as service disruptions to applicable Firm personnel.
  • Processing vendor invoices and verifying accuracy of the charges.
  • Establishing voice and data networks by programming features, establishing interfaces and integrations, leveraging remote access tools,  following industry standards and best practices.
  • Keeping current on ever changing voice and network technologies through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development and training courses as guided by IT Operations Manager.
  • Documenting voice network architecture by creating up-to-date configuration documents, diagrams and network maps.
  • Documenting the telephony BCP (Business Continuity Plan) and provides cross-training to colleague(s).
  • Administering other miscellaneous telephony roles such as maintaining the Firm's Cell Phone accounts, conference bridge provider(s), etc.
  • Other related responsibilities as needed.
  • Minimum Job Qualifications
  • A 2 or 4 year degree, certification, or other formal training in IPT technology or equivalent experience.
  • One of the following or equivalent experience:
    • CCNP Voice and/or Data - Cisco Certified Network Professional
    • CCNA Voice - Cisco Certified Network Professional
    • Avaya Professional Design Specialist (APDS)
    • Avaya Certified Implementation Specialist (ACIS)
    • Avaya Certified Support Specialist (ACSS)
    • Avaya Certified Solutions Architect (ACSA)
  • 2 yr. experience with AVAYA Session Manager, AVAYA Element Management System, AVAYA Session Border Controller and AVAYA Call Server.
  • Experience with network monitoring systems- Solarwinds is a plus.
  • Experience in Legal industry is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with all aspects of Avaya voice platforms and IP networks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of carrier-based service provisioning and protocols in both public switched and private telecom networks.
  • Comprehensive understanding of inner workings of SIP architectures.
  • Demonstrated understanding and familiarity with QOS, POE and IP network switching and routing.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Able to work on multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Able to stay calm and collected in high pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a customer-service focus and attitude at all times.
  • Appropriate telephone and email etiquette.
  • Capable of working individually as well as part of a team and adapt to change.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs. 
  • Must have valid drivers license.
