Project and Pricing Analyst
Location: Flexible, and in any state where the firm has an office.

Position Summary:
The Project & Pricing Analyst (the “PPA”) is a full time, exempt position that is responsible for input, auditing and analytical support for various projects related to pricing and attorney billing. The PPA helps to audit time entries per outside counsel guidelines, develop budgets, fee arrangements and project specific activities that support the Firm’s overall pricing strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Related
- Performs Time Entry Auditing per outside counsel guidelines
- Runs routine scripts to generate list of new time entries posted
- Makes necessary changes for time entries still in WIP
- Split block billing narratives into separate entries as appropriate
- Escalates to timekeeper if narrative is not descriptive enough, if entries are in block billing style, or if errors are present in substance of narrative
- Escalates to billing partner if wording change may change the definition of actual work done, or if any of the timekeeper escalations are still not satisfactory or questionable
- Review month-end matter-level time entries to identify where multiple timekeepers completed the same task or attended the same meeting, escalate to billing partner
- Run Billblast reporting on ebilling client rejections and reductions
- Work on automation of repetitive errors into time entry system via macro / scripts / error messages
- Documents and analyzes required information and data
- Prepares requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations
Pricing Related
- Develop financial models and analytics in support of pricing proposals
- Compile and analyze data and historical statistics relating to revenue, realization, and profitability
- Undertakes detailed financial analysis in relation to and in support of the development of pricing alternatives in response to client request/RFPs
- Provide support to partners for pricing requests, time entry best practices, preparation of fee estimates, development of appropriate pricing approaches and the communication of fees and value pricing
- Proactively identify, evaluate and develop pricing for legal services the Firm may offer as “packaged products”
- Supports the development of detailed competitor analysis and associated database and bring to bear in development of client fee arrangements
- Develops strong understanding of Practice Group economics, task codes, and client requirements
- Work with different management groups and attorneys within the Firm, utilizing tools and analytics to build better time entries, guide rates and pricing strategies to maximize profitable growth
- Create and document best practices as they relate to time entry, pricing and profitability
- Review outside counsel guidelines as needed for time entry, invoicing, pricing and rate requirements
- Maintains a collaborative and proactive working relationship with others in the Pricing and Legal Project Management team, Finance and Accounting department, Business Development and Firm Practice Leaders and lawyers
- Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments affecting the area of specialization, and encourages innovative thinking and the exercise of sound judgment to achieve results
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality of all Firm records and files
- Assumes additional responsibilities as requested
Qualifications and Prior Experience:
- BA/BS preferred or a combination of some college with 3-5 yrs. experience.
- Self-motivated, strategic and analytical thinker with high level of initiative and attention to detail.
- Experience constructing complex models, financial analyses, and reports using Excel, Access, and other relational-database systems.
- Exceptional organizational skills with time management skills to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the Firm, both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technology quickly.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments, use initiative and judgment to accomplish results, participate as a team leader or member of a team, work under pressure and complete job assignments in an accurate, timely and professional manner.
- Excellent presentation, communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required and ability to interact effectively and professionally with all learning styles, personality types and levels of management, staff and a variety of external entities including clients.
- Ability to travel to the Firm’s other offices.
