Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting and Analysis, the Tax Accountant will work with our external tax consultants to make quarterly estimated tax payments and coordinate all K-1 information necessary for completing the annual return. This role is also responsible for all state and local tax return filings and payments throughout the year.
Location: Remote. Must reside in the following states: AZ, CA, D.C., FL, IL, IN, LA, MA, MN, MS, MO, NJ, NY, RI, TX, WI
Essential Job Functions
- Keep quarterly partner elections up to date for our outside tax consultants to make accurate estimated partner tax payments.
- Reconcile Partner Pass-Thru Entity (PTE) payments for all partners and capital partner distribution review.
- Update partner compensation information to outside consultants for final K-1 preparation.
- Review the tax return at the firm and individual partner levels.
- Prepare, file, and pay all State and Local tax returns throughout the year.
- Advise partners regarding PTE elections and general understating of filing K-1 vs W-2.
- Inform management about the impact of tax liabilities and corporate strategies or new tax laws.
- Keep up to date with tax changes and industry trends by participating in educational opportunities, participating in professional organizations, keeping up with professional networks and reading professional publications.
- Maintain our MACRS tax depreciation assets with our fixed asset module (Sage).
- Other ad-hoc reporting and financial responsibilities within the firm.
Qualifications and Prior Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred
- Minimum of 6+ years in tax accounting and compliance; law firm experience preferred.
- Experience with US federal and state tax, including partnership tax.
- Ability to perform basic analysis and calculate key financial metrics.
- Knowledge and understanding of tax and general accounting policies and procedures.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all day-to-day activities.
- Demonstrate a sense of initiative to identify problems and take action to remediate proactively.
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to function as a part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and execute on a diverse range of tasks.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
