Senior Conflicts Analyst

Position Summary:    

The Senior Conflicts Analyst is responsible for the timely day-to-day analysis of conflict and new client/matter requests, including but not limited to conducting corporate affiliate research, and identifying where potential conflicts exist.  Responsibilities shall also encompass performing similar conflict checks relating to the activities of the Firm’s attorneys and lateral candidates, ensuring proper coding of clients, matters and related parties and soliciting rich descriptions of the nature of the work being proposed. This role is also responsible for providing training to new conflict analysts and supporting special projects.   

  

Duties and Responsibilities:    

  • Performa quality control checks of New Business Intake requests to ensure that data is accurate and complete. Use internal and external resources to ascertain the nature of an entity’s role in a particular matter, and engage in discussions with lawyers and/or secretaries to gather information and/or clarification as needed.  
  • Perform conflict of interest searches for all New Business Intake requests and proposed lateral hire candidates; including the preparation and summarizing and analysis of conflicts results.  
  • Conduct research on related parties and affiliates, ensuring a complete, documented conflict search is performed for every major organizational relationship of and investments made by Firm attorneys.  
  • Evaluate relationships between companies and individuals and incorporate those relationships into the conflicts database.

  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of firm policy and department procedures regarding conflict checking and new business intake, including case captions, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines.   
  • Assist the NBI & Conflicts Supervisor in the drafting and updating of department procedures for conflicts and new business intake. 
  • Assist in all aspects of the Conflicts department operations inclusive of administrative tasks to maintain the integrity of the Firm’s conflicts database.
  • Assign new matter numbers, ensure that all waiver and engagement letters are being collected and assist in the implementation of ethical walls as necessary.  
  • Respond to all inquiries made by secretaries and attorneys relating to intake and conflicts.  
  • Stay current with best industry practices and new developments in the area of conflicts of interest and risk management. Participate in continuing education, research, networking, and professional and industry organizations to advance competencies.  
  • Conduct training for  new Conflicts Analysts.  
  • Lead and participate in special projects.  
  • Assume any other duties as assigned.   

               

Qualifications and Prior Experience:    

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant information management or legal studies discipline is required. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in conducting legal research. 
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze information, including ability to compile, review, filter, synthesize, and determine the logical conclusions or recommendations based on data and information which is varied in content and format.  
  • Excellent analytical skills. Ability to draw accurate conclusions from complex sets of information.  
  • Advanced internet skills, and exceptional attention to detail.  
  • Previous experience in a law firm, professional services or consulting firm in processing new business and/or conflicts of interest is strongly desired. 
  • Working knowledge of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct pertaining to business intake and conflicts. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with personnel at all levels to converse about conflicts of interest issues, and department procedures.  
  • Excellent professional work ethic, initiative and customer service.  
  • Familiarity with industry leading NBI and Conflicts systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. 
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and to provide off hours (evenings, weekends and holiday) to support projects and escalated issues, as needed.
