Description

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Business Development Manager to join our growing Marketing & Business Development team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the firm’s strategic growth by supporting high-impact initiatives across key practice areas and industry teams.

The Business Development Manager will work closely with attorneys, practice group leaders, and senior BD professionals to drive client-focused campaigns, support go-to-market strategies, and enhance the firm’s visibility in target markets. This position is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings a strategic mindset to execution.

Location: Fully remote; candidates must reside in one of the following states: AZ, CA, DC, FL, IL, IN, LA, MA, MN, MS, MO, NJ, NY, PA, RI, TX, or WI

 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Practice Support

  • Partner with practice group and industry leaders to execute BD and marketing plans aligned with firm priorities.
  • Monitor market trends and client developments to identify outreach opportunities, thought leadership, and positioning.
  • Develop a strong understanding of practice strengths to support client-facing materials and strategic messaging.

Coaching & Lateral Integration

  • Provide 1:1 coaching to attorneys on business development strategies, client engagement, and personal brand-building.
  • Support onboarding and integration of lateral hires from a BD perspective.

Client Targeting & Intelligence

  • Use CRM and business intelligence tools to support client targeting, lead tracking, and pipeline development.
  • Create targeted contact lists and outreach strategies for client development efforts.
  • Collaborate across practices to support cross-selling and integrated marketing initiatives.

Pitches & Proposals

  • Lead the development of pitches, proposals, and RFP responses in collaboration with attorneys and BD colleagues.
  • Coordinate experience capture and directory submissions to support visibility and rankings.
  • Track pitch outcomes and campaign metrics to inform future strategy.

Events & Thought Leadership

  • Help plan and execute client-facing events, sponsorships, and speaking engagements aligned with strategic goals.
  • Partner with communications colleagues to amplify practice visibility through content and campaigns.

Teamwork

  • Contribute to firmwide initiatives such as CRM adoption, experience management, and process improvement.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior team members as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certifications in marketing, communications, or business a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development or marketing, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with CRM platforms (e.g., InterAction) and marketing technologies preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high level of professionalism.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information
